Non-Delivery of PCCWeb Daily Devotionals

SPAM ALERT! One of the common problems that we deal with regularly is when our subscribers don't receive their verifying e-mails or e-mailed devotionals. Unfortunately, religious material is considered spam by most spam-blocking programs, so when certain key words are detected in our e-mails, they are mis-tagged as spam. Most Internet Service Providers have an anti-spam and anti-virus program that blocks, filters, delays, or diverts such e-mails to a junk or spam mailbox which the subscriber can access by webmail on the Internet Service Provider's website. Many subscribers also have an anti-spam or anti-virus program that directs spam to a junk or spam mailbox on the subscriber's own computer, where a number of our subscribers have been surprised to find their devotionals. If you have an e-mail spam blocker on your own computer, or use spam-blocking services that require a response from the sender, or use an Internet Service Provider with a high level of spam protection, you should add our e-mail address <pccwebdaily@cogeco.ca> to your safe-list or allowed-list, and check the junk or spam mailboxes on your own computer and by webmail on your Internet Service Provider's website to ensure proper delivery of your verifying e-mail and your devotionals. If you are unable to resolve the problem, please contact your Internet Service Provider for detailed instructions on how to configure your spam or junk control settings. Instructions for configuring the spam or junk control settings for your Hotmail or Yahoo account appear below. Please note that Bell and Sympatico use Hotmail.

Configuring Your Hotmail Spam Settings

Since Bell and Sympatico use Hotmail to handle their e-mail, the same advice on how to configure spam settings applies to both service providers. When subscribers add <pccwebdaily@cogeco.ca> (for the PCCWeb Daily Devotional) to both their "Safe Mailing Lists" list and their "Safe Senders" list, their e-mails have been delivered ever since.

To find your missing devotionals, do this:

  1. Login to your Hotmail account at www.hotmail.com with your email address and password.
  2. Click on "Inbox" and a list will come up.
  3. Click on "Junk". A list of junk mail will appear and it will include the PCCWeb Daily Devotionals.
  4. Check the box beside each devotional.
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the junk mail list where a list of options will appear across the bottom.
  6. Click on "Not Junk". The devotional will be removed from the junk mail list and come into your inbox.

To make sure that you have the PCCWeb Daily Devotional on both your safe address lists, do this:

  1. Login to your Hotmail account at www.hotmail.com with your email address and password.
  2. Click on Options>More options (top right).
  3. nder the section "Junk e-mail", click on "Safe and blocked senders".
  4. Click on "Safe Mailing Lists".
  5. Type "pccwebdaily@cogeco.ca" in the box and click the "Add to list" button.
  6. Go back to the the same "Safe and blocked senders", and click on "Safe Senders".
  7. ype "pccwebdaily@cogeco.ca" in the box and click the "Add to list" button.

These steps should allow your devotional e-mails to come straight through.

If this advice does not solve the problem, you should telephone your Internet Service Provider's Technical Support line.

Configuring Your Yahoo! SpamGuard Settings

Under normal circumstances, Yahoo! SpamGuard automatically considers that the Daily Devotional is spam, and it is sent to your "Spam" or "Bulk" folder. If your SpamGuard is set to delete spam immediately, you will never see the Daily Devotional. In different countries, Yahoo! may be set up differently, but the best information we have about properly configuring your SpamGuard protection is as follows. If you use the New Yahoo! Mail, skip to the second section.

In Yahoo! Classic Mail:

  1. Click on the "Options" link near the top right of your mail screen.
  2. In the "Options" box that opens at the left of your screen, choose "Mail".
  3. In the middle of the screen click on "Spam Protection". Make sure that it says "SpamGuard is ON". If not, click on "Turn SpamGuard ON".
  4. In the Step 1 section "For messages SpamGuard identifies as Spam", click in the circle beside "Save these messages in the Spam Folder for...".
  5. Click on "Continue" for Step 2, and in the section, "When I mark a message in the Spam folder as not spam", check the box beside "Move the message to my Inbox".
  6. Click on "Continue" for Step 3, and click in the circle beside "Block images in messages that SpamGuard thinks are spam". Click the box "Set Up Spam Protection".
  7. In the morning, if you don't see your Daily Devotional, click on your Spam or Bulk folder, open the Daily Devotional e-mail, and click on the "Not Spam" button above it. Spam Guard will move your message to your Inbox, and all future similar e-mails will also be delivered to your Inbox.

In the New Yahoo! Mail

  1. Click on the "Options" link near the top right of your mail page, and choose "Mail Options".
  2. In the left-hand box, choose "Spam". Make sure that the box beside "Automatically send suspected spam to my Spam folder" is checked, and choose any option for "Empty Spam folder" except "immediately".
  3. In the morning, if you don't see your Daily Devotional, click on your Spam or Bulk folder, open the Daily Devotional e-mail, and click on the "Not Spam" button above it. SpamGuard will move your message to your Inbox, and all future similar e-mails will also be delivered to your Inbox.
