Daily in Yesteryear
This page summarizes the development of the web-site version of the
PCCWeb Daily devotional, from its inception within PCCWeb on May 25, 1996 to the present.
The quickest tour is to sample the numbered pages that show the six generations
of graphics. Don't expect the links on these archived pages to work. The site has been re-organized many times over the years.
1.
January 29, 1997: This is the earliest
available version of the page with the original Daily graphics.
The first Presbyterian Church in Canada web-site was called "PCCWeb", and
the address of the original web-site was "http://www.pangea.ca/~pccweb". The "tilde"
appears in the logo as the landscape under the rising sun.
2.
February 28, 1997: The PCCWeb webmaster,
Michael Farris, changed to a different, lowercase version of the Daily
graphic.
3.
August 21, 1997: Ian MacCready, the new webmaster for
PCCNet came up with a catchy graphic analogy likening the "Net" to that
used by fishermen, and by "fishers of men". The Daily page tried
a more colourful column style that emphasized the "PrayerLine" feature,
as it was not used as much as the Editor would have liked at the time. For the first time,
the links on the page referred to recently developed features within
Daily, rather than features of the parent site.
4.
November 3, 1997: The Internet Task Force
had by now determined that the name "PresbyCan" was better than PCCNet,
since the address already had "presbycan" in it. John Crowdis, the graphics expert at
PresbyCan, came up with new ideas, and the Daily Editor came up with
a new logo featuring a triquetra as a symbol
of the Holy Trinity.
5.
May 25, 1999: This day we celebrated Daily's
Third Anniversary with a whole new look, to bring Daily in line with
John Crowdis's new graphics for PresbyCan. Note the e-mail subscription count, and the
link to a devotional on how the Daily got its start,
Bread On The Waters. Another
related historical devotional was Death
Of A Vision.
6. January 3, 2000: The sixth major revision
of Daily's look came with the introduction of a frames version. Note the e-mail subscription count.
